7 dead A Spanish boat sinks off the coast of Canada

Canada-(Berberanews)-A Spanish fishing boat sank off the east coast of Canada, killing at least seven people and leaving 14 more missing.

According to Spanish media accounts, the crew of 24 included 16 Spaniards, as well as Peruvian and Ghanaian nationalities.

The ship, which was headquartered in Marin, Galicia, Spain, sank in Canadian waters off the coast of Newfoundland.

Brian Owens of Canada’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) informed the AFP news agency, “We have now retrieved seven deceased victims and three survivors.”

According to the Spanish maritime search and rescue service Salvamento Martimo, two distress alarms were received from the Villa de Pitanxo vessel, which was more than 450 kilometers (279 miles) from land.

According to Maica Larriba, a central government spokeswoman in Pontevedra, Galicia, the three survivors were discovered in a lifeboat suffering from hypothermia.

“Two of them were entirely empty, and in one of them there were just three survivors in hypothermic shock because the water temperature was horrible, very low,” she claimed.

“The fact that we’ve already located three survivors in a life raft gives us hope that others were able to get into their survival suits, life rafts, and escape off the ship,” he said.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of Spain stated he was “concerned” about the rescue operation.
