London-(Berberanews)-According to Boris Johnson, all Covid restrictions will be lifted on Thursday, and free mass lateral flow testing will be phased out on April 1.
The Prime Minister said in the House of Commons that the legal obligation for persons who test positive to self-isolate would be removed.
From April 1, he stated, free fast testing would be aimed to specific segments of the population.
This week also marks the end of the £500 isolation payment for low-income households.
Mr Johnson told MPs that the Covid provisions for extra statutory sick pay will apply for another month.
He claimed that, as a result of the country’s efforts over the previous two years, it was now ready to shift away from government limits and toward personal responsibility.
“Covid will not vanish overnight,” Mr Johnson warned, “so those who wait till the war is over before eliminating the remaining prohibitions will be constraining the liberties of the British people for a long time.”
“This government does not believe that this is right or necessary. Restrictions pose a heavy toll on our economy, our society, our mental well-being and on the life chances of our children, and we do not need to pay that heavy cost any longer.”
