Turkish airline launches A Weekly commercial flights to Mogadishu.

Berberanews-Turkish airlines’ first service to the Somali capital by any European airline safely landed at Mogadishu International Airport today March 6^th/ 2012.

The Boeing Commercial Airline, featuring special introductory fares starting at 199 Euros, including all taxes and fees is said to become the first international passenger carrier landing and departing its maiden flight at war torn capital city of Somali-Mogadishu’s airport in two decades.

Several Somali airlines, including Kenya-based African Express, fly into Somalia from neighbouring nations, but Turkish Airlines’ are the first commercial flights from outside the region twice-weekly.

 Somalia did not have a functioning central government for over 20 years and under the rule of a the radical islamist group called Al-Shabaab has been riven by factional fighting before being driven out by Africa Union and government forces last August.

 The arrival of the airline was welcoming news for many Mogadishu residents, who said they hoped it would make it easier for relatives in the large Somali Diasporas scattered around the world to come home to visit.

 Flights to Somalia will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, one of the most modern aircraft currently in operations. This service, in action via Khartoum, departs Mogadishu to Istanbul on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from Istanbul to Mogadishu on Wednesdays and Fridays.
