Addis Ababa University offers Swahili language

Addis Ababa University is planning to provide Swahili language classes. The University President, Tasew Woldehana, president, was quoted by EBC, the state media, on Wednesday as indicating that the preparations had been completed.

There is no mention of a timeframe.

The language department at Addis Ababa University has been offering foreign language classes, including French.

When the Confucius Institute opened in 2015, the University began offering a BA degree program in Chinese language. The Chinese language will henceforth be taught at the master’s level.

Swahili is one of Africa’s most widely spoken languages and an African Union working language.

Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, among other African countries, speak it.
