Kenya: Somaliland had not submitted an application to Kenya for recognition

Kenya-(Berberanews)-The Kenyan government has for the first time addressed the issue of Somaliland’s recognition, following a recent parliamentary debate on the issue.

Kenyan Foreign Affairs Minister Raychelle Omamo said Kenya was treating Somaliland as part of a federal Somalia, saying Somaliland had not submitted an application to Kenya for recognition as an independent state.

Omamo also spoke about the crisis in Ethiopia. She said Kenya would not forget Ethiopia, and would continue to negotiate softly and use soft diplomacy to end the crisis in its neighbor.

The minister’s comments come as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the BBC that the situation in Ethiopia was difficult for the international community to resolve, with the Addis Ababa government persistently ignoring what he called foreign intervention.
