Conflict in Ethiopia: US issues new statement on ongoing war

Washington-(Berberanews)-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said his country is “deeply concerned” about the escalating conflict in Ethiopia.

He called on the warring parties to immediately cease hostilities.
Blinken said he had discussed the situation in Ethiopia with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and shared US concerns about the war, which he said was a threat to regional stability.

“We call on all parties to the conflict to take concrete steps to safeguard the unity and territorial integrity of Ethiopia,” Blinken wrote on Twitter.

Fighting appears to be intensifying, with Prime Minister Abi Ahmed on the front lines, according to a video released by state media on Friday.
Speaking briefly in an undisclosed area, Abiy said his forces had made significant gains in the fight.
“The enemy has no power to stop us or compete with us, and we will defeat them,” said Prime Minister Abiy, who handed over the reins of government to his deputy Demeke Mekonnen.
